PickPic raises the bar for online proofing

Upgrade delivers innovative features

February 16, 2005 — Taking online proofing to an entirely new level, digital media consultant Troy Widner has unveiled PickPic — version 2 of the set of technologies formerly referred to as The iView MediaPro Shopping Cart Solution (or "the Widner Cart," as it is sometimes called in online forums).

"With this first major upgrade, it was very important to listen to what our clients needed," said Widner. "Not only am I confident we met those desires head-on, but I'm absolutely ecstatic we finally have an official name to bandy about."

The system consists of two major components: professionally-installed server software and HTML template files designed to work in conjunction with iView MediaPro, a leading image management tool for Macintosh and Windows. A photographer simply creates image galleries in iView MediaPro and uploads those files to his or her own web hosting account. Clients are then able to view the galleries and submit order and payment information via a secure checkout process.

Version 2 boasts a number of firsts in host-it-yourself proofing:

  • Real-time previewing of black & white, sepia and borders.
  • An image selection feature that allows clients to submit images to the photographer without being charged for them.
  • An automated "jump" page for easy client access to events.
  • Alternatively, a login system for photographers who do not want to list events.
  • A web-based control panel that provides both gallery management options (gallery activation, expiration and reactivation) and payment retrieval capabilities.

Additionally, the upgrade adds support for:

  • Multiple price lists.
  • Galleries divided into sections.
  • Automatic expiration of galleries.

All PickPic installations include professional configuration. Varying degrees of appearance customizations are made based upon these tiers:

  • Basic, which includes a scaled-back feature-set and custom color scheme for $575 (USD).
  • Standard, which includes the full PickPic feature-set, custom color scheme and logo integration for $725 (USD).
  • Custom, which includes the full PickPic feature-set, as well as an entirely new visual design that more closely matches the look and feel of your main web site for $900-$1100 (USD).
